If You Lived Forever How Much More Would You Accomplish?

Have you ever thought of the gift of eternal life, how about living forever on Earth, never dying that is, able to play this virtual reality game forever until you had built up the perfect life and lived like a king, on top of the world forever? Well, if you’ve ever pondered this thought and most of us have at one time or another, then perhaps, we ought to address a few questions.

If you have not considered this, then let me recommend a very good book I think you should read prior to your thinking on this topic. The book is called;

“Death with Interruptions,” by Jose Saramago.

It is a great allegory; “Be careful what you wish for.” Interestingly enough, some science fiction authors have tackled this subject as well. For instance;

Isaac Asimov’s “Robot Series” book: “Naked Sun” Robert Heinlein’s “Time Enough For Love”

And we know today that many folks and micro-biologists are working on life extension along with people like Ray Kurzweil and Aubrey de Grey. Anyway in Isaac Asimov’s book the folks live for 600-years similar to those in the Genesis in the Bible, and it turns out that they do not actually accomplish anymore due to this long life, rather, it just takes them longer so things become stagnant and there is no progression of society or civilization.

Nevertheless, I feel as if Isaac Asimov perhaps missed a few facts. For instance, look at the increases in human technology in the last 200-years. Consider if you will that during this same time life-expectance has drastically increased from 55 to 80 years, and before the top end was 65, now the top in tops out at well over a 100-years old with over 100,000 centurions alive today. We’ve seen nothing but increases in progress, and technology. So, I think everyone is wrong.

In fact, I’d go so far as to say, if we want to get rid of wars, we need to increase our life spans, and we’ll get all the other benefits too, including increased life expectancy again, thus, maybe Ray Kurzweil is correct, if you can live another 30-40 years, you might live forever, and who knows the first person to live to be 1,000 years old may have already been born. Please consider all this.
