If You Lived Forever How Much More Would You Accomplish?
Have you ever thought of the gift of eternal life, how about living forever on Earth, never dying that is, able to play this virtual reality game forever until you had built up the perfect life and lived like a king, on top of the world forever? Well, if you’ve ever pondered this thought and most of us have at one time or another, then perhaps, we ought to address a few questions.
If you have not considered this, then let me recommend a very good book I think you should read prior to your thinking on this topic. The book is called;
“Death with Interruptions,” by Jose Saramago.
It is a great allegory; “Be careful what you wish for.” Interestingly enough, some science fiction authors have tackled this subject as well. For instance;
Isaac Asimov’s “Robot Series” book: “Naked Sun” Robert Heinlein’s “Time Enough For Love”
And we know today that many folks and micro-biologists are working on life extension along with people like Ray Kurzweil and Aubrey de Grey. Anyway in Isaac Asimov’s book the folks live for 600-years similar to those in the Genesis in the Bible, and it turns out that they do not actually accomplish anymore due to this long life, rather, it just takes them longer so things become stagnant and there is no progression of society or civilization.
Nevertheless, I feel as if Isaac Asimov perhaps missed a few facts. For instance, look at the increases in human technology in the last 200-years. Consider if you will that during this same time life-expectance has drastically increased from 55 to 80 years, and before the top end was 65, now the top in tops out at well over a 100-years old with over 100,000 centurions alive today. We’ve seen nothing but increases in progress, and technology. So, I think everyone is wrong.
In fact, I’d go so far as to say, if we want to get rid of wars, we need to increase our life spans, and we’ll get all the other benefits too, including increased life expectancy again, thus, maybe Ray Kurzweil is correct, if you can live another 30-40 years, you might live forever, and who knows the first person to live to be 1,000 years old may have already been born. Please consider all this.

I Want to Live Forever – Are You Sure About That? Think it Through
What if you really could live forever? That is to say as long as you wanted to live, and you’d be healthy during that time. Many people have thought about that. Indeed, I can remember when I was very young asking my mom; “Why do I have to die; I don’t want to die.” I was quite upset, but my mom told me not to worry, that it happens to everyone and not to worry about it. Nevertheless, it is something that bothers us all at one time or another.
Not long ago, an acquaintance of mine when discussing this topic noted; “I have always enjoyed science fiction, there was a book by Robert Heinlein where the main character lived for something like 3000 years; Time Enough For Love. Most people are horrified by the idea, I on the other hand have found it fascinating not because I want to live forever (not in the slightest) but because you can do so many things, and have time enough to change your mind.”
Indeed, I just remembered that in an Isaac Asimov’s “Robot Series” book: “Naked Sun” the people lived for a long time unfortunately, the folks would spend some 300-years working on one thing, and since there was no urgency, they never got very much done. There was a huge discussion on this concept. II have had this discourse and dialogue many times with someone who is close to me who also read the book, since we both had read it, and we’ve had this conversation a number of times actually.
Why you ask, well, because for some people it would not serve them or humanity well, but for others it would be completely a benefit for humanity and themselves. See that point? If you’d like to learn more about life extension and how science is progression, why not do an internet search on; Aubrey de Grey, Ray Kurzweil, and life extension. Please consider this.
